Model for radiation-induced inflammatory autoimmune diseases. In this model, ionizing radiation (IR) induces reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and necrosis, leading to the activation of inflammatory transcription factors and secretion of inflammatory cytokines. This effect is associated with further ROS production and cell death. The activation of the inflammasome in diabetic patients is involved in hyperglycemia, leading to oxidative damage. Moreover, inflammatory cytokines can stimulate the differentiation of dendritic cells (DCs), which present further necrosis antigens to T-cells
