Open Abdomen

During the past two decades, open abdomen has emerged as a common technique in treating severe trauma, intra-abdominal sepsis and other abdominal catastrophes. Open abdomen mitigates the risk of abdominal compartment syndrome, facilitates the drainage and surgical debridement and improves survival rate. However, management of open abdomen remains a great challenge and some complications may limit its wide use.

Military Medical Research is pleased to announce a call for submissions to a thematic series on open abdomen. We welcome submissions regarding all aspects of modified temporary abdominal closure technique and other cutting-edge methods to help achieve final fascial closure and prevent and manage complications. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Comparison of managements in septic and non-septic open abdomen
  • Nutrition support in patients with open abdomen
  • Different temporary abdominal closure systems improving definitive fascial closure rate
  • Application of biologic and synthetic materials in abdominal wall reconstruction
  • Prevention and management of enteroatmospheric fistula and other complications
  • Long term physical and psychological impact of open abdomen

Research articles, reviews and case reports are welcomed. To submit your manuscript, please use our online submission system and indicate in your cover letter that you would like the manuscript to be considered for the thematic series on open abdomen. All submissions will undergo peer review according to the journal’s policy. The deadline for manuscript submission is 31 December, 2015.
